Water Resources Investigation, Kaweah Delta Water Conservation District -
Part of a project team that performed a basin-wide Water Resources Investigation (WRI) of the Kaweah Delta groundwater basin. The WRI included a hydrogeologic conceptual model and a complete evaluation of the basins’ water resources.
Wellhead Protection Demonstration Project, Fox Canyon Groundwater Management Agency -
Part of the project team that completed the Fox Canyon Groundwater Management Agency wellhead protection demonstration program. The project eliminated 44 old, abandoned water wells that were contaminating a large aquifer system in Ventura County. The project was a significant success as a framework for future similar programs and improved protection to local groundwater quality. Additional funding, cooperation, and support contributed by the United Water Conservation District and the City of Oxnard added to the success of the program.
Well Restoration -
In accordance with local agency requirements, ACS conducts well restoration activities when needed. Well restoration, when possible, saves the well owner the cost of replacing the well. Initially, the discharge rate is determined using a digital flow meter and totalizer. Photographs of the well are taken before restoration to document the wells condition. A video log survey of the subject well is performed to determine the current condition of the well casing, particularly in consideration of stimulation activities potentially planned to increase the yield of the well. If needed, the well casing is acid-washed and wire-brushed to remove accumulated casing scale and any encrustation observed on the perforations during the video survey. Any failed equipment or disintegrated piping is properly removed, disposed, and replaced. When the restoration activities are complete, the discharge rate is again determined and photographs of the restored well are taken. ACS then prepares a report documenting the well restoration activities, including discharge rates, photographs, and a DVD of the video log.
